Shop Announcement: Hanging up My Furniture Hat
It’s time. After 8+ years of spending my weeks tackling furniture piece after furniture piece, I’m pressing the pause button. Vintage Fresh is going to move away from refinishing furniture for the foreseeable future.
What I have known in my head for a while now has finally sunk into my heart: our current process is not sustainable for my family as our kids are getting older and more involved in extracurricular activities. You see, what is often not shown over here is the amount of work that the furniture side of VF takes up outside of regular business hours, both during the week and on weekends. From finding pieces, to picking up all over the central Texas area, and then delivering―it’s taken a toll on our family.
If you’ve been following us for awhile, then it’s likely you’ve heard the story behind how Vintage Fresh got its start. I discovered my love for refinishing furniture not long after adopting our two kids and wanting to be able to quit my teaching job so I could stay home with them. I was determined to find a way to make it work financially for us, and I found it through taking furniture that was likely headed to the trash pile and giving it new life with a can of paint and whole lotta elbow grease.
The refinishing process has always been therapeutic for me, but over the years, the demand of running a shop AND refinishing furniture has been draining. By taking a step back, I’m hoping to also refuel and rediscover the art behind refinishing that I once loved so much.
It’s ironic (or maybe full circle?) that I started this endeavor 8 years ago to spend more time with my family, and now I’m taking a step back from it to do the same.
Now I know some of you must be wondering if this is the beginning of the end? But don't worry, Vintage Fresh isn't going anywhere. In fact, I see this as a way to make room for us to curate the best home and lifestyle goods we can offer!
I know many of you will miss the old Vintage Fresh, as will I, but I am hopeful and excited about the direction we’re headed. Whether you’ve been with us since the beginning or just started shopping with us, please know how much I appreciate your support of Vintage Fresh. Many of you have come to love us for our furniture, and I know not everyone will stay, but we hope many of you will stick around as we begin this next chapter.
